LETTERS TO THE FOLIO

Hi Folks,
We’re trying to stay abreast of the Pacifica vs. KPFA-WBAI situation. So far the internet has been the information supplier.
Dave and I first subscribed to KPFA in 1958 (I think) when the Folio was a several page mimeographed folder with lots of information about programs and nice artwork on the cover. We continued subscribing until the first big round of firings (Phil Elwood, etc.) when we began a period of mourning. We still have hope though.

If John Whiting will have a piece in the new KPFA Folio, that alone will make it worth getting. He is a rare stylist.

Thanks, looking forward to the new Folio. I didn’t recognize what was going on when it dwindled to nothing in years past. I grew up with the station and remember the Folio as it once was.
Thank you all for your work and inspiration. I was going to send $10 but assume you can use money to get started. All worked up by the WTO coverage, too. Heard Ralph Steiner talking about the old days Folio a couple months back. Time for house cleaning and building and rebuilding.
Cheers, Robert Armstrong, Oakland, California

Dear North Bay for KPFA,
Enclosed is a check for ten dollars to cover six issues of the resurrected KPFA Folio!
I was a camper at Camp KPFA, and was arrested twice defending the Camp and once defending our transmitter. I believe my fellow campers would join me in thanking you for resurrecting the Folio and for using it as a tool for democratizing Pacifica. This is precisely why we were in the street: to radicalize the agenda and move the discussion away from petitioning the present Board for scraps from their table, and toward concrete means of achieving listener participation in decision making. You folks at N. Bay for KPFA are carrying forward what we started on the street.
Defend Kahlil Jacobs Fantauzzi! We are going to win!

Dear Colleagues,
Please enroll me as a subscriber to the KPFA Folio that you’re planning to publish.
Please also accept my thanks and admiration for your outstanding and well-focused efforts on behalf of KPFA in its struggle against Pacifica. For all of us who understand the importance of this struggle, we will owe you a great debt when/if KPFA prevails.
Yours,
Murray Tobak, Palo Alto, California
P.S. I became a subscriber to KPFA in 1950 when Lew Hill came to the Palo Alto Co-0p to look for wider support when the signal area was expanded.

This is great news! I had thought of suggesting that people get in touch with Ralph [Steiner] to get some real "hands-on" advice on what it would take to revive the Folio. Looks like you've done that and more! I'm thinking I might possibly contribute something at some point -- back in the days when Ralph was in charge and there were real, stand-alone articles in the Folio, I wrote a little, tiny (inside joke here) cover story about nuclear testing. Anyways, congrats again -- this will bring us another step closer to getting our station back.
