- LETTERS TO THE FOLIO -

DOESN'T HAVE A COMPUTER

To those who are producing this Folio,

Thank you very much. I really felt cut off when the decision was made to stop the Folio. I don’t have a computer. The Folio made me feel more apart of things. I looked forward to reading the articles each month and the letters from subscribers. And, of course, knowing about any program changes was important, too.

Thanks again,

OLD INFORMATIVE FORMAT

Though I think the Folio should come with subscription to KPFA, as it used to, I want to support your effort, so here’s 10 bucks.

I’m one of the people that really loved the Folio and was very angry when it was discontinued in its old informative format.

Keep up the good struggle!

LONG LIVE THE JUDGE

Dear Folio,

Due to some confusion, I turned up as Kahlil Jacobs-Fantauzzi’s attorney in Carol Spooner’s "Legal Updates" (Folio, January, 2000). I’m not Kahlil’s attorney, Richard Krech is. Fortunately for Kahlil.

I would be willing to be the judge, though.

SOME SUGGESTIONS

Dear People,

Thank you for putting out a new Folio. I have greatly enjoyed my first two copies. Thank you for your good work!

I do have some suggestions to make. I don’t know if my circumstances were/are unique, but I received my January Folio on February 4th. Perhaps this was a fluke, but if the Folio was only mailed in early February this makes much of your "timely" information regarding programming, or acting on information provided in articles a bit useless. A more timely distribution of the Folio to arrive before the 1st of the month it is for would be useful.

Also, as regards your layout of programs I don’t understand why the 4PM Monday thru Friday slot lists "KPFA Specials"since it has been the regular program called "Hard Knock Radio" since long before you issued the first Folio.

I also don’t understand why "Cover to Cover" is listed generically instead of by the names of the individual programs and programmers. This has been a set schedule of programs for a very long time.

I love your "Program Notes" section and would like to see this expanded to cover all non-music programs, like the old Folio.

Your articles are wonderful and well worth the price of the Folio.

Thank You!

The Folio responds --

Dear Barbara,

You raise several issues that we are not happy about either. We have just found a new production person and will be able to mail the Folio earlier in the month. Our printer also has "real" jobs that existed before we came along and he fits our Folio job into his schedule. We will try to provide more timely information on programming as we refine our process. In the meantime, we will concentrate on providing information to our subscribers that will assist us all to remove and democratically replace the Pacifica National Board and help us to create the Pacifica National Network that we need in the 21st Century.

In the first two Folio issues we essentially copied the program guide directly from the guide that KPFA sent out to subscribers. You will notice that we made several changes to the guide in this, the third issue. Coincidentally, KPFA has also made corrections to their guide. As we continue to publish the Folio we will make every attempt to include more details on programming but this cannot be our priority.

Thank you for your questions and for your enthusiasm. We are sorry we cannot duplicate the content of the original Folio.
