KPFA HIGHLIGHTS
Requiem for a Woman’s Soul, Omar Rivabella’s searing court-room drama about solitary con-finement and abuse of political prisoners in South America will begin airing Sunday, June 4 from 6:30 –7 pm. Rivabella, an Argentinian journalist and human rights advocate, knows his subject well. Presented in half hour segments over four weeks, Requiem exposes the details and emotional scars in a dramatic fashion.
In the next few weeks in the Cover to Cover time slot, weekdays from 3-3:30 pm, hear author Rebecca Solnik dis-cuss her popular book, Wonderlust: A History of Walking (5/22); Jennifer Stone continues her Tuesday series on “Feminine Genius” with discussions “From Sappho to Stein;” and Guillerman Galindo, Mexico-born com-poser in conversation Jack Foley about Galindo’s poetry-in-per-formance, which includes text by poets Andrei Codrescu and Juvenal Acosta (5/25). Recorded live at New College of California on this January 28. On May 29th, Eric Hansen will talk about his intriging book, Orchid Power: A Horticultural Tale of Love, Lust and Lunacy; on the last day of May various readers will commemorate Walt Whitman’s birthday including Orson Wells and Whitman himself; author Steven Saylor talks about his novel about O’Henry (6/1); and Eric Bauersfeld does a reprise from his popular readings from Henry James to begin “June is for James” month.

KPFA Study Trip to Russia and Siberia – June 24 – July 18, 2000. EcoPeace Travel and KPFA are presenting a 3-week educational and cultural trip from June 25-July 18, 2000. This trip will take participants off the beaten tourist path in Russia and Siberia. Visit Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other cities. Spend your days visiting schools, museums, worksites and botanical gardens. In the evenings attend the ballet, the theater and the circus. Meet with local students and teachers, coal-miners, craftspeople, and local political leaders. Tour cost is $2,700 including air fare. KPFA comes to Sonoma County – Sunday, May 28, Larry Bensky and Robbie Osman will broadcast their shows from the Powerhouse in Sebastopol from 9 a.m. through 1 p.m. Sunday Salon will feature discussion of problems Sonoma County faces as the fastest growing section in the Bay Area. Robbie will have his usual wonderful mix of music. Join us at the Powerhouse for this opportunity to interact with two programmers who have been at the heart of the struggle with Pacifica to keep KPFA a free speech station.
