Money Matters

We live in a world of limited resources where our disposable income is constantly showered by requests for worthy causes. Around the struggle to change the Pacifica structure to be more aligned to its original purposes, there are many worthy causes, all needing financial support to be effective.

On any one day you might be asked to put into the hat at a public gathering, to send a check to one of the ongoing listener sponsored activities, to pledge financial support to the station. Look carefully at each opportunity to help with your contributions, and consider the following recommendations.

The efforts to democratize the structure of Pacifica have effectively changed the Local Advisory Board which is now having its first listener elections.

The process of mailing and collecting ballots costs money, about 40 cents per eligible voter. Funds for mailing ballots need to be collected before the mailing begins in September. You can help support ballot distribution by sending a contribution to the following:

KPFA Election Committee
PO Box 13349
Berkeley, CA 94712-4349

Make your check payable to CPR and put in the memo section: "KPFA election."

The Committee to Remove the Pacifica Board is poised to move forward with their lawsuit. This suit will show that there has been a breach of a charitable Trust, fiduciary duty and contract by the national Pacifica Board.

It will require restitution by the directors for the $500,000 (or more) wrongfully spend during the occupation of KPFA. It calls for the removal of the Board provides for an amendment to the bylaws to give membership status and voting rights to listener/sponsors. Your financial help at this time is essential. Send contributions to:

Committee to Remove the Pacifica Board
c/o Carol Spooner
1136 Wild Rose Drive
Santa Rosa, CA 95401

A final suggestion for how to wisely contribute money is to support the efforts of North Bay for KPFA in publishing the Folio. We greatly appreciate the subscriptions and extra donations that have already been sent, but our shoestring operation still needs more support. We have kept everyone on our mailing list, even if you have not subscribed for the second set of six issues and continue our efforts to establish nationwide distribution. There are funds to cover publishing this issue and the next. We are committed to continuing for two more issues beyond that and need you to subscribe again, if you haven't already done so.

Consider sending a subscription to your friends, especially if they live in another listener area. Help us continue making the Folio a voice for the listeners throughout the country, working to save the resource the Pacifica network can be. Send subscriptions ($10 for each set of six) and donations to:

Folio/Sonoma County Peace and Justice Center
540 Pacific Avenue
Santa Rosa, CA 95404

To be effective, we need to give financial support to the activities that represent our beliefs. By joining together, we find our strength and can succeed in bringing about change.
