To Baron Ignaz von Gleichenstein
Vienna, Summer, 1808

Anderson v1 pg195-196 - letter #173

Here, my dear fellow, is the letter to Winter - First of all, it states that you are a friend of mine - secondly, it states what you are, namely, an Imperial and Royal Court Secretary - thirdly, it states that you are no connoisseur of music but nevertheless a friend of all that is beautiful and good - in consideration of which I have asked the Kapellmeister, if any of his works are performed, to give you an opportunity of hearing them - This is a hint to you to show a rather warm interest in his compositions - Well, that pertains to the science of politics about which your friend knows very little - Perhaps it will help you also to obtain something else at Munich - Well now, all good wishes, dear friend - have a pleasant journey - and think of me occasionally - My greetings to your little brother.

                                                        Your true friend
