To Count Franz von Oppersdorff, Oberglogau in Silesia
Vienna, November 1, 1808

Anderson v1 pg199-200 - letter #178

Most excellent Count!

You will probably have formed an unfavourable impression of me. But necessity drove me to hand over to someone else the symphony which I composed for you, and another one as well - Rest assured, however, that you will soon receive the symphony which is specially intended for you - I trust that all this while you have been in good health, and your wire also, to whom you will please give my kindest regards - In case you should wish to honour me sometime by visiting me in Vienna, let me tell you that I have rooms in the Countess Erdödy's apartment, immediately underneath that of Prince Lichnowsky - My circumstances are improving - without my requiring the assistance of people who like to belabour their friends with flails - Moreover I have been offered an appointment as Kapellmeister to the King of Westphalia and it may well be that I shall accept this offer - I send you my good wishes and ask you to think now and then of your most devoted friend
