Anderson v1 pg206 - letter #190

Since I can produce no documentary evidence of my wisdom, of my wide reading and so forth, I am sending you instead some documentary evidence of my power of imagination - I wanted to visit you yesterday evening but - fortunately I remembered in time that you are not at home on Saturdays - I now fully realize - I must either go to see you very often, or not at all - I do not yet know which of the two alternatives I shall choose, but I am inclined to think that it will be the latter - because I shall thereby be freed at once from all obligation, that is to say the obligation of visiting you.

                                                            Wholly your
