My dear Bigot!

I had already been suffering for a few days from a feverish attack - and at the very moment when I wanted to visit you I had a most violent bout - and now I am laid up in bed - As this attack was caused by a chill - warmth must now restore me to my former condition - But I hope that by tomorrow I shall feel better - This is to explain why I left you - My best greetings to your family from

                                                         Your very devoted
